Museums and Places

Not only to bridge rainy days, but also to become acquainted with the region's people, their life and history, it is good to visit a museum. In Wendland as much as 13 of them are open to the public:

• Circular villages and ancient craftmanship in the Rundlingsmuseum in Lübeln
• Amtsturmmuseum Lüchow presents beginnings of the city on to the great fire during french occupation in 1811
• Archäologisches Zentrum in Hitzacker, reveals life in Bronze Age 4000 years ago
• The Alte Zollhaus, presents ancient life in Hitzacker, a city near Elbe river
• The Blaue Haus in Clenze is about life during Wendland's golden age between 1650 und 1950
• The Grenzland Museums Schnackenburg and Göhr are about Cold War history in the region
• Heimatmuseum Vietze has a nice collection from early settlements up to 19th century stuff
• In Stones Fan Museum Lüchow an adorer shows his comprehensive collection about Ron Wood, himself and the Rolling Stones.
• In the Feuerwehrmuseum Tramm you can experience firefighting from leather buckets to modern powered fire pumps
• The Museum Wustrow houses a completely recreated colonial goods shop in 19th Century style
• The remains of a medieval castle can be visited in the Waldemar-Museum in Dannenberg
• Naturum Göhrde is a museum about the biosphere in the large Göhrde forest.

Not all facilities are opened throughout the year. Please ask us for hints on where to go, depending on the season.
